TONI MULLER COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST

My background is quite varied. From journalist to primary school teacher to drama teacher in the years between 1997 and 2005, I have had an opportunity to share in the stories of others, to engage with children in a learning environment, and to use creativity and drama to bring out the inner artist that exists in all of us.

In 2006 I began working in East London at Canaan Care Centre, an NPO for children and young adolescents with severe to profound brain injury. While my primary role was to design an educational and stimulating programme for the children, interacting with these young people and their parents engaged me on every level and I became the learner as well as the educator. During this period I also co-ran an arts therapy group for children and adolescents with Down’s Syndrome. I count myself as so fortunate to have had these opportunities to prepare me for my work as a therapist.

During my Psychology studies internship, I worked in a private psychiatric hospital and with a range of adults with difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, and addiction. Following this, I worked with a tertiary student population focusing on issues such as study skills, wellness, emotional and adjustment difficulties, existential crises, family issues, as well as depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse.

As a university lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, I lectured and trained students and intern psychologists at a Masters level in the areas of case management, therapy for all age groups, report writing, assessment, neuropsychology, and group therapy.

I opened my private practice in 2011 and work with people from all walks of life and with a range of different needs.
